Implanon Process

Step 1. Consultation

Your GP talks through your options and checks the implant suits you, and explains the procedure — done under local anaesthetic, so you are awake but should not feel pain.

Step 2. Insertion or Removal

A small implant is placed just under the skin of your upper arm — or removed, with a new one fitted in the same visit if you wish. The procedure itself takes minutes.

Step 3. Aftercare & Replacement

You should be able to feel the implant under the skin. It works for up to three years, and can be removed or replaced at any time.
